A Foodie is an informal term for a particular class of aficionado of food and drink. The word was coined in 1981 by Paul Levy and Ann Barr, who used it in the title of their 1984 book The Official Foodie Handbook. Foodies are a specific group with interests and activities that include wine and wine tastings, breweries and beer, following restaurant openings and closings and reopenings and food trends and fads.
Our friends have commented that we are “snobby eaters”, constantly critiquing various restaurants, dishes and decor. However, we would say we have a certain palate or at the very least and understanding that a lot of restaurants that come and go in south Florida, have a mismatch between price and quality. We are not looking for the holy grail (although that would be nice), but don’t charge me a fortune for a dish that is mediocre at best.
What we hope to accomplish with this blog is to discover the is the great and sometimes not so great south Florida eateries. Examine and write about high end, low end and eateries in between. We will cover a geography from Palm Beach Gardens to Miami and bring you our perspective and taste on various bars, restaurants, wines dishes and chefs. We also hope to give you an intimate look #behindthehashtag at the chefs that make some of south Florida’s eateries great.
